I recently inherited a Remington Sportsman 48. While using it hunting, the handle to the bolt flew out, I found the bolt, re-inserted it, but could not rack the bolt back to load the gun. I've tried field stripping the gun, taking the barrel off, bolt out and trigger assembly off and reassembling the gun.That should definitely loosen things up. As far as removing the pin, yes after it's driven down, you should be able to remove the firing pin. Mine was to long and bottoming out on the slide before it cleared the bolt.
