Ram 2500 stuck in 4th gear.

Dec 17, 2023 · In the past month, when I’m downshifting using the exhaust brake to slow down, it will jump to 4th gear and stay there. I’ll pull over, shut the truck off, restart and take off again and it’s back to normal. Start the truck in neutral, and pull the shifter straight down to 1st gear. Drive it, and see if you can manually shift it to 2nd with no hiccup's. If it still acts up with that 7 pin connector unplugged, you have an electronic issue (in the valve body). I installed a new 68RFE transmission in my 2007.5 ram 2500 getting P0760 code the truck is in limp mode stays in 4th gear in drive position. I have a 6-speed automatic transmission. The transmission went to 4th and skidded the tires significant enough to create smoke from the tires. Downshifting from 6th to 4th at 65 (or even 75+) mph shouldn't cause the tires to lock up. It might cause a 1500 +/- rpm jump, but that should be nowhere close to tire lockup.

P0988 is also a fluid pressure issue. The last 3 will most likely be caused by the first. You can't get it to work in any gear other than 1st when you start from a stop and 4th.
