That's pretty much what we see with the 383 vs. 406 units. Our pump-gas 383's average approximately 475 HP and our 400's come in around 575. The problem basically with the 400's is coming up with cores. Many of our customers opt for the aftermarket blocks on the 400's. These blocks are also worth some add'l HP. Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S.

You have to compare apples to apples -- with the same brand and type pistons, same brand and type rods. Here's an example that will have you scratch your head. SRP flat top 383 piston for 5.7" rod = 472 gm. SRP flat top 383 piston for 6.0" rod = 419 gm. Eagle SIR 5.7" rod = 535 gm.

One thing you might want to consider, go with a 406. This uses the long stroke(3.75"), but big bore! It is a killer! :D You can stay with the tpi, and make more torque and hp than the 383.
